*New* Q2E on the provision of mechanical grooming brushes for cattle.
Source: I. Veissier
Grooming is a natural behaviour, and helps the animal to remove mud, faeces, urine, insects and parasites from the skin. Research has reported that dairy cows are highly motivated to access a mechanical brush, and the provision of such a brush satisfies normal grooming motivation.
To our knowledge, Denmark is the only Member State in the European Union with a compulsory demand in their national animal welfare legislation to provide brushes for dairy cows. The legislative limit is at least one rotating brush per 50 cows. For more information go to:https://www.eurcaw-ruminants-equines.eu/questions-to-eurcaw/
