The European Commission has announced the establishment of an EU Expert Pool on Import Controls, bringing together national experts responsible for official controls on animals and goods entering the Union. This initiative reinforces trust in the agri-food chain and upholds high EU standards anchored in the Vision for Agriculture and Food.
Through this Experts Pool, national officials, appointed by their government, will perform staff exchanges and joint visits to major EU border control posts, creating a strong operational network to share expertise, identify common challenges, and spread best practices. The initiative also builds on the measures announced by the European Commission and complements the work of the Task Force on Import Controls.
Against the backdrop of growing and increasingly complex trade flows, this represents a tangible step towards more consistent, efficient and coordinated import controls, from which consumers, farmers and businesses will all benefit.
